RIVERSIDE – A young Murrieta woman was killed Saturday when a Sea-Doo watercraft she was on collided with a boat near Needles, according to a coroner's report, one of a pair of nasty boating accidents on the Colorado River.
Desiree Hobill, 19, was a passenger on a personal watercraft that collided with a boat on the river near Needles, about 180 miles east of Los Angeles, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner's office.
The accident was reported at 5:23 p.m. Saturday. Hobill was transported to the Colorado River Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 7 p.m., coroner's officials said.
It was unclear if anyone else was hurt. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department was investigating the collision.
Further south on the Colorado River outside Blythe on Friday, a Moreno Valley man was arrested for being impaired after his boat struck a Sea-Doo with three teens on board, Riverside County sheriff's officials said.
Two of the teens were critically injured, CalFire-Riverside County officials said. Two injured boys and one girl were transported to hospitals by rescue helicopters, their identities were not released.
The accident was reported about 2 p.m. Friday on the river near Mayflower Park and Sixth Avenue in Blythe.
Michael Lane, 64, of Moreno Valley, was later booked at the Blythe Jail and cited for use of a watercraft while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a jail official said today. Lane was released after he was cited.
