RIVERSIDE – Deputies near San Jacinto and Temecula cited 10 people for illegal off-road vehicles and issued 10 off-road warnings on the Fourth of July and Saturday in a continuing enforcement operation, a sheriff's deputy said.
The primary goal was to reduce illegal off-roading and excessive noise, and to increase off-road safety, said Riverside County sheriff's Deputy Mike Martinez.
The Riverside County Off-Highway Vehicle Enforcement Team, which calls itself R.O.V.E., is comprised of about 100 deputies who have completed a certified law enforcement all-terrain vehicle course, according to the Sheriff's Department.
They have their own specially-equipped, high-performance ATVs, and are sometimes assisted by horseback members of the sheriff's Mounted Posse during R.O.V.E. deployments, deputies said.
