MORENO VALLEY – Authorities asked for public help Wednesday in identifying a young man who was struck by a pickup truck while crossing a street in Moreno Valley on the Fourth of July and died of his injuries several days later.

The victim was midway across Alessandro Boulevard, just west of Indian Street, around 10:20 p.m. Friday when he was hit by the truck, according to Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Don Teagarden.

The pedestrian, believed to be about 20 years old, was transported to Riverside County Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries at 1:43 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Riverside County coroner's office.

The driver, Debora Doster of Yucaipa, was not injured, and there was nothing to immediately indicate she was at fault, Teagarden said.

Authorities were seeking the public's help in identifying the victim, who was Hispanic, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 160 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes.

“He has probably worked as a laborer,” Teagarden said.

The young man had a single tattoo on his left arm, bearing a design similar to that of a swastika, which he evidently tried to conceal with an arm band, according to Teagarden.

Anyone with information about his identity was encouraged to contact the traffic division at the Moreno Valley sheriff's station at (951) 486-6900.
