MURRIETA – A Temecula man who stabbed a cousin and chased his estranged wife's family around their Murrieta home with a knife pleaded guilty Monday to attempted murder and child endangerment and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Craig Roehrs, 39, who also pleaded guilty to making criminal threats and allegations of great bodily injury and use of a weapon, entered his plea before Riverside Superior Court Judge Judith Clark, as he was awaiting a preliminary hearing.
Roehrs was captured in Nevada, seven days after he stabbed his wife's cousin on Jan. 17, in the 37000 block of Elderberry Street, Murrieta police said.
Police were called to quell a disturbance at Roehrs' wife's family home, where she was staying with 7-year-old daughter, according to Murrieta police Lt. Dennis Vrooman.
Vrooman said Roehrs was angry that his wife would not let him see his daughter because of his alleged drug use and anger issues.
Roehrs broke through the rear sliding door, chased after family members and stabbed the woman as his wife and daughter hid at the rear of the house, Vrooman said.
