TEMECULA – A 30-year-old Murrieta man was identified Monday by authorities as the driver they are seeking who fled after allegedly causing a vehicle crash that killed three people.
The victims were a Camp Pendleton serviceman, his wife and young son.
Suspect Chad Isaac Huber, 30, of Murrieta, is still at large. He is alleged to have been the driver of a GMC pickup that struck a sedan carrying Andres Cruz Sanagustin, 48, his 36-year-old wife Maribeth and 4-year-old son Angelo.
Authorities said that after the crash, Huber was picked up at the scene and driven away by another motorist. That motorist has been found, arrested and charged, although authorities did not disclose what relationship – if any –existed between Huber and the motorist.
The crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. June 29 on Warren Road, when the GMC crossed the double yellow lines from southbound Warren and struck the Sanagustins' Malibu, said Ron Thatcher, officer with the California Highway Patrol.
The motorist who allegedly drove Huber from the deadly crash site was identified as Jarred Benjamin Abatti, 23, of Banning. Abatti was arrested three days after the crash and has been charged with hit-and-run with death and is also facing an allegation of having a prior felony strike conviction.
He is set for a felony settlement conference on Aug. 8.
Huber is considered dangerous. Anyone with knowledge of the case was asked to call the Temecula CHP office at (951) 506-2000.
