ROME – Organizers of a Himalayan climb say bad weather has delayed a helicopter rescue for two Italians descending a mountain in Pakistan following the death of a fellow climber.

Fog and rain have prevented Walter Nones and Simon Kehrer from making any progress Wednesday coming down Pakistan's Nanga Parbat mountain.

The two are stuck at about 21,600 feet (6,600 meters) on the 26,810-foot (8,125-meter) mountain. They must descend to 19,600 feet (6,000 meters) because thin air makes it too risky for helicopters to fly above that height.

Organizers say a rescue attempt is now scheduled for Thursday, when the weather is expected to improve. The two Italians began to descend after famed mountaineer Karl Unterkircher fell into a ravine on one of the world's deadliest peaks for climbers.
