ASSOCIATED PRESS

11:13 a.m. July 23, 2008

WASHINGTON – Tiffany Jackson came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points as the New York Liberty beat the Washington Mystics 80-73 on Wednesday.

Jackson's basket gave the Liberty a 73-69 lead with about a minute to play, and her free throw with 25.2 left put them up 76-71.

Loree Moore added 10 points and was the only New York starter in double figures.

Washington (9-15) lost its fourth straight to New York even though four starters scored in double figures: Taj McWilliams-Franklin (19), Alana Beard (16), Monique Currie (14) and Nakia Sanford (14 points, 10 rebounds).

The Mystics, who trailed by nine after the first quarter, went ahead at 45-44 on a basket by Currie late in the third quarter. She scored again on the next possession to give Washington a 47-44 lead.

But New York (13-10) came back and took a 50-49 lead on a 3-pointer by reserve Lailani Mitchell in the closing minute of the third quarter. The Liberty bench outscored the Washington reserves 42-10.

It was the second game for the Mystics under interim head coach Jessie Kenlaw, who won her first game 89-57 at home against Seattle on Sunday.
