DEL MAR – Babs Moossa rallied from far off the pace to nip Triumphant Flight by a nose Wednesday in the $125,000 Graduation Stakes for 2-year-olds at Del Mar.
Babs Moossa, ridden by Garrett Gomez, covered 5½ furlongs in 1:04.70 and paid $8.80, $4 and $2.80. The win was the third in five lifetime starts for Babs Moossa and was worth $81,600, raising the career earnings of the son of Crowning Storm to $132,450.
“He's a big horse and he's learning,” Gomez said. “I had to work to get him to change leads, but once he did, he came running. I thought I was going to go on by and win by a length and a half, but once he got up next to that other horse (Triumphant Flight), he waited on him a little bit.”
Triumphant Flight returned $3 and $2.60. Turbo Call finished third in a field of seven and paid $4.60 to show. The first three finishers carried 119 pounds each.
