London 2012 organizers say venues will be ready

ASSOCIATED PRESS

4:10 a.m. July 24, 2008

LONDON – London 2012 organizers said Thursday that the Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Center will be ready to stage test events a year before the games despite being completed later than planned.

While the Olympic Delivery Authority conceded that the British government's financial watchdog was correct when its latest report highlighted delays to both venues, it said the changed schedule had been agreed upon with contractors and still would allow a full year of tests before the games.

“We have always said that the main games venues would be ready by summer 2011 to allow a full year of test events before the London 2012 opening ceremony,” ODA chief executive David Higgins said. “That is the timetable that matters, and nothing has changed.”
