PARIS – Damiano Cunego of Italy crashed Thursday during the 18th stage of the Tour de France, but got back on the bike after getting treatment for a cut on his chin.
Tour organizers said the Lampre team rider crashed early in the 122-mile trek from Bourg-d'Oisans to Saint-Etienne. Television images showed Cunego with a bandage attached to his chin. His jersey was ripped and torn.
Cunego, once considered an outside favorite for a Tour podium place, was in 14th place overall at the start of the stage, more than 12 minutes behind leader Carlos Sastre.
